STYLE NECESSITIES

{ralph lauren military polo & esprit beaded halter top (gift), diy denim cutoffs, marc by marc jelly bracelets (from Parade of Dresses)}

I've been overusing these boots, I know. It's just that with my ankle support, it's hard finding a pair of flats that can fit my right foot and even more so harder to find something that'll cover it up and lessen the stares I get from random people. Those two factors leave me with only this pair, thus making its recent major blog exposure unavoidable. Wore this ensemble to an errand filled day last week. Busy weeks behind and ahead of me, I'm super loving it! :)

I've been told today twice "so you're fashion over comfort" after explaining why I'm wearing an ankle brace. I know it wasn't supposed to mean anything (other than I'm maarte, hahaha) but it got me thinking... Truth be told, I think fashion and comfort aren't opposite poles and that it's either one or the other. You can choose both fashion and comfort to define your style. In fact, I think I'll be bold enough to say that style without comfort does not exist. Comfort is a non-negotiable style necessity. You might be thinking I'm crazy and a hypocrite coz I like high shoes that usually hurt my feet after a whole day of wearing them, but I'm talking about a deeper level of comfort - something more than just physical. It's being satisfied and at ease with the way you chose to dress yourself and present yourself to the world. It's the comfort in knowing you're wearing something, at least, decent and totally you. Coz let's face it, how are you gonna rock an outfit you don't feel good in?! It doesn't matter if not everyone gets your look, think of Mary Kate Olsen and her grunge-boho look that got some eyebrows raising but also landed her on top of the style list. I guess what I'm saying is, you have to be comfortable in your own style coz if you're not, then it's not your style. Fashion is the relatively easier part, you can look to the latest runway shows and see what the current trends are; whereas finding out how it translates to you and your style is the more challenging part - I've been there, done that, and am still doing it. All I know is that I feel best when I'm wearing something that doesn't make me second-guess my wardrobe choice every other minute. It makes me more confident and it makes me feel that half the battle has already been won whether it's a school report, date, or just everyday errands. But that's just me. ;)

  12. Love the outfit, and actually the ankle brace is cool! Just make up a crazy story when people ask what happened (bit by an alligator, hang-gliding accident, etc) ;)

    I agree with you on style/comfort. It's all about self-confidence. Maybe I would be physically comfortable in sweatpants and flipflops...but I would be uncomfortable because I wouldn't feel my best!
