THE LITERAL AND FIGURATIVE COMFY PANTS
{wearing: topshop tank, bedok blk shops, charles&keith sandals}
Tonight I was reminded of the importance of stepping out of your comfort zone. It seems like the running theme of this blog as of late has been comfort and happiness, and I'm not kidding when I say I did not intend for it to turn out that way. However, I've always believed that whatever thoughts or feelings you have brewing on the inside will always always manifest itself. So that's why it's always important to be positive - but I digress. Tonight I was reminded of the leaps I've made in the not so distant past. Specifically, the seemingly haphazard decisions to drop everything and go to a foreign land. Whether it was Poland or Singapore, whether for 2 months or coming 2 years, a raised eyebrow has been thrown at me on more than one occasion. Why the heck would you leave something (somewhat) stable for the unknown?! The answer lies in the very question. For the unknown. For the hope of something better. For that blind belief that destiny beckons. As I get older, I worry that the courage and the optimism of youth will slowly fade with the cynicism of the "real world" prevailing. How do you maintain a balance between realistic expectations and wide eyed romanticism? Stepping out of your comfort zone is one. It puts things in perspective. The small becomes huge, and the big becomes tiny. With something as simple as breaking your routine and talking to new people, you realize the impact of the little things and how the big things seem mundane compared to the greater world out there. So I end with The Beatles: "Try to realize it's all within yourself. No one else can make you change. See you're really only very small, and life flows on within and without you."
