GREASE IS THE WORD IN SINGAPORE
I got the chance to watch the opening night of GREASE here in Singapore last April 25 at Marina Bay Sands. I've never fully watched the movie before but I've always loved the songs so I was really really excited to witness Danny and Sandy's summer lovin'.
Being the curious kid that I am, I did my research prior to the show and what I learned got me even more excited. GREASE is a musical turned into movie and not the other way around. Before the hit movie, John Travolta had been playing the role Doody (not Danny!) in the touring production of the musical andddd when the show hit London, the first Danny Zuko was Richard Gere. Cool, right?! So much history!

To make things even more exciting, GREASE came to our tiny island direct from London's West End and a sell-out season in Australia. With the producers marketing the show as that, my expectations have been set quite high -- I wasn't disappointed. The moment the lights dimmed and Principal Lynch walked on stage, I was already having goosebumps. The production is really topnotch. I loved the set, the lights, and of course, the live band. The cast also didn't fail to amaze, with Gretel Scarlett (Sandy) leading the pack. Her voice was smooth, clear and powerful. The full ensemble numbers were also mind-blowing. Seeing everyone sing and dance together on stage is a guaranteed chill inducer. We Go Together, anyone?
Being a modern day woman though, my only issue with GREASE is the ending. Why did Sandy end up completely changing herself for Danny?! That's like Relationship Rule #1 in glossies like Cosmo - never change yourself solely for a man. But other than that, I loved GREASE! I suggest you guys catch it before its final Singapore show on May 18. Tickets available at Sistic!
