SINGAPORE EXCURSION: Artichoke + Aura Reading

A lot of people complain that there's nothing to do in Singapore. After all, Singapore is called little red dot for a reason - it's a little dot on the world map. I used to fully agree when local friends describe this city as boring coz eat, sleep, and shop are the only things you can do. However, recent weeks have led me to believe otherwise. Singapore has so much to offer in terms of food alone and being sian with it is no one's fault but yours. You have to put in effort to find not-your-ordinary eateries, taste new flavours, and go to different districts. I'm proud to say we've been doing just that and we've been rewarded with really yummy food finds. (See:  Where to Eat in Singapore).

What's great is that the hunt for good food has also led us to mini-fieldtrips where we end up exploring the area instead of just passing through it. This post is dedicated to our Bugis visit wherein I veered off from the usual Bugis+, Bugis Village, and Bugis Junction and went to Middle Road and Fu Lu Shou Complex.

First stop: Artichoke Cafe & Bar

reservations are highly recommended as it gets really packed (especially on Sundays when it's only open from 1130am - 245pm).

we made it just in time during our first visit and lucky us, there were 2 counter seat left. so yes, we were very psyched as shown by my wide smile.

so far, I've only had the pleasure of having brunch here but they have an amazing dinner menu I'd love to try soon

so what is it that they serve? Facebook says deviant middle eastern food. (really yummy deviant middle eastern food, I must say)

lemonade and iced mocha

this isn't your ordinary lemonade. I'll go as far as saying that this is the best lemonade I have ever had.

my "oh my god, I can't get over how amazing this tastes" face. not a flattering angle, I know.

bacon chop

smoked salmon pancake

and awesome it was. :) I really liked the food. The boy is a salmon lover and the girl is a bacon lover, so we both found our orders very very satisfying. I should also mention that the music here is really good. I was telling Luke the whole time how much I loved the playlist (because it sounds like mine, haha) Would I come back again? I already did. :p

Artichoke (and its sister bakery: Overdoughs) is located at 161 Middle Road, Singapore 188978

With our full bellies, we walked around the area and passed by Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple. I heard from my colleague that this is one of the busiest temples in Singapore and that this is the hottest spot during Chinese New Year. It was already packed when we passed by so I can only imagine how crazy it is during CNY.

We made our way to Fu Lu Shou Complex so we can have our Aura read at Kang Li Crystals.

They have a machine that snaps a photo of your aura. All you have to do is sit across it and place your hands on the metal plate on each side. Then snap. It prints the photo as well as an explanation. Below is my aura. :) The aura changes every so often so this might not be my aura anymore.

So that was our Bugis excursion trip. Not your usual, but definitely worth it.
